This watercolor pencil case is an easy crochet pencil case pattern for beginners. It is perfect for beginners, because all stitches used in this pattern are single crochet.

Yarn

• Alize cotton baby soft

50% cotton, 50% acrylic

Wt. 100g – 3.53Oz

Hook and other materials used

• 2.5mm hook ….. US hook size: C/1

• Zipper

• Scissors

• Yarn needle

Length: 8inches ( 20cm)

• Diameter of circular panel: 0.8inch (2cm)

Gauge

23st by 24 rows = 4 inches

Adjust hook size if necessary to obtain gauge.

Abbreviations

Ch: chain

Sc: single crochet

St: stitch

Sl st: slip stitch

Note:

• Beginning ch 1 does not count as a sc.

• Pattern is written in two sections, the front and back rectangular panels are worked in rows, and the small circular panels are worked in rounds.

INSTRUCTIONS

For front rectangular panel

Ch 21

Row1: sc on second st from the hook, sc in each st across. Turn. ( Total 20sts)

Row2: ch1, sc on each st across. Turn. (Total 20sts)

Row3-48: repeat row 2.

Fasten off, weave in ends.

Repeat the same process for the back rectangular panel.

For the small circular panels

Make a magic circle

Round 1: 8sc within the circle. Sl st to the first sc to close the circle. (Total8 sts)

Round 2: ch 1, 2 sc on each st. Sl st to the first ch to close the circle. (Total 16sts)

  • Fasten off, and cut yarn way long approximately 12 inches ( 31cm), we will use the long strand or yarn for sewing the circular panels on the rectangular panel.

  • Repeat the same process for the other 7 small circular panels.

  • Sew the circular panels on one of the rectangular panel (which will be considered as the front panel).

  • Then, after sewing all of the 8 circular panels on the front panel, sew the front and back rectangular panels together using single crochet , & at the corners make sc, ch1, sc to prevent the pencil case from bending at the corners.

  • Leave one side for the zipper to be sewed on.

  • Finally, sew the zipper.

NOTE: you can sew the zipper on the pencil case after sewing the 3 sides of the front and back rectangular panels together.

OR

You can sew the zipper before sewing or attaching the front and back rectangular panels together.
