This spiral popcorn hat is a crochet hat pattern that is easy & fun to make. The techniques used in this spiral beanie crochet pattern are: popcorn stitch, half double crochet, double crochet in the third loop of the half double crochet, front post double crochet and back post double crochet.

The pattern comes with 3 sizes.

Toddler – fitting head circumference—18" - 19”

Child – fitting head circumference— 20” – 21”

Adult – fitting head circumference— 22” – 23”

I will be working this crochet spiral hat pattern in Adult size. The child & toddler sizes will be written in bracket.

• Silky & Mercerized Effect Alize Diva PLUS ( the solid yarn )

• 100% Microfiber acrylic

• Wt. 100g – 3.53 OZ.

• Length: 220mt - 241yds

Alize baby wool ( the variegated yarn )
40% wool, 40% acrylic & 20% bsmboo

• 3.5 mm hook, US hook size: E/4

• Scissors

• Yarn needle

Gauge

20 dc by 11 rows = 4 inches

Adjust hook size if necessary to obtain gauge.

Special stitch

Popcorn stitch: dc 7 times in the same st, drop your working loop, insert your hook in the first dc of the 7-dc group, then slip back into the working loop, slip st through the 2 loops on your hook.

• Third loop: all basic crochet stitches have front and back loops, which forms a V shape at the top of the stitch. Whereas, hdc has an extra loop at the back, which we call third loop.

Note:

• The beginning ch2 is considered as hdc.

• The beginning ch3 is considered as dc.

• This pattern is worked in a panel ( that is in rows) and then the two sides are seamed together.

• C= stands for child, T=stands for toddler.

• The hat is worked from bottom (brim) to top ( crown).

• The chain count is a division of 3 + 2.

Ch 110 ( C: 92, T: 89)

Row1: Insert hook in the 4th ch (considered as dc), dc all across. Total 108 ( C: 90, T: 87). Turn.

Row2: ch3 ( considered as dc), fpdc in the next 2sts, *bpdc in the next 3sts, fpdc in the next 3sts,* rep. from *to* all across till the last 3sts, bpdc in the last 2sts, dc in the last st. ( same for all sizes). Turn.

Row3-5: rep. row 2.

Row6: ch2 ( considered as hdc), hdc in the next 13sts ( C: 13sts, T: 13sts), pop corn in the next st, * hdc in the next 14sts, popcorn in the next st,* rep. from *to* 4times ( C: 3times, T: 3times), hdc in the last 18sts ( C: 15sts, T: 12sts). Turn.

THE HAT FOR ADULT SIZE IS DONE!!

Finishing and seaming

Tie off yarn leaving a long tail. While WS is facing, weave tail end, in & out, around the top of the hat. Pull tight to close up the top. Secure with a few knots and weave in ends.

Then, seam both sides together from bottom to top of the hat using yarn needle. Fasten off & weave in ends.

Finally, flip hat inside out & attach the Pom pom.

DONE!!
